A parade held by Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department (DDPM) Phuket at Saphan Hin in Phuket Town today (27/12) under the theme of ‘Seven Days of Danger’. It is about road safety for welcoming New Year holiday. “New Year season is inviting a lot of tourists on the road. This season also increasing the risk of accidents on Phuket roads about three times higher than normal season,” said Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) Phuket chief San Jantharawong.
The parade contains up 200 people including officials from state agencies, Phuket polices and volunteers from local organization. “This year we are targeting to reduce at least 5 percent accidents on road than ones happened last year,” said Chief San. Last year Phuket sadly listed four deaths and 71 injured persons within the total of 64 accidents happened during the period, said him.
It is so important while Tung Tong police today reported motorcycle accident that is resulting a Swedish tourist died and one Norwegian tourist injured badly. “They were coming from Red Mountain Golf Course. A young Swedish woman was the motor driver and the Norwegian man is hitchhiking,” said Lt Col Chana Sutthimas. “The Swedish woman was losing control and hit a pole in the edge of the road. She was wearing helmet but the man was not. The Norwegian man now treating at Bangkok Hospital Phuket and the body of the Sweden kept at Vachira Phuket Hospital,” said him. Swedish consulate has contacted to inform her family.
