The Death of Plai Sang

Lam Tab District residents in Krabi are grieving for the death of 67 years old Plai Sang. The respected bull elephant was tamed in 1956 while local people believed he is a sibling of Plai Pra Sawet, the elephant of HM King Bhumibol Adulyadej in the same year.

The village headman Samran Nuansomsri told if it is a big loss for Lam Tab villagers due to they are respected Plai Sang so much. “Former sub district chief Kamnan Larb caught him at Nong Jood in Din Udom sub district in 1956. In the same year Plai Pra Sawet, the elephant of HM the King Bhumibol Adulyadej, has caught. We believed Plai Sang is the sibling of Plai Sawet from the same father,” said him. On Saturday more than 100 local residents were paying their respects in the house of Santi Srisuk, the caretaker of Plai Sang after his father Kamnan Larb died.

Mr Santi told, “Plai Sang was ill for six months. We had tried to heal him and he seemed to recover but a week ago he looked depress. At last on Saturday he was suddenly being very sick and died at 10 AM.” Plai Sang will bury near Mr Santi’s house while villagers will merit him in nine days and nine nights.
